Synopsis

After a performance, Zatanna complains to her cousin Zachary that he was sloppy, lacking professionalism and not taking it seriously.  Zachary shrugs off the criticism.  Zatanna continues to harangue him, following him into their limo and then to a party.  She attempts to continue to talk to him, but soon realizes that it is useless.  She turns to leave.  Just then she overhears Zachary talking to a young woman, Yuki Onna.  Zatanna recognizes her as a succubus.  She tries to warn her cousin, but it is too late.  Yuki Onna already has control of Zachary.  Zatanna fights the succubus, eventually freeing her cousin.  Afterwards, he doesn’t remember anything and is more interested in a young woman he just met.

“Get yer number?”

Much like the Sturges-written issue a month or so ago, this was another fun, one-and-done story.  I wouldn’t call it the best comic of the batch that came out this week, but it was also wasn’t the worst.  I found it enjoyable and it made me chuckle a few times.

What I would like to know is this:  what happened to Paul Dini.  With the news of the relaunch, and the knowledge that there are only 2 more issues of this title, I’ve got to wonder if Dini has enough space to finish the larger meta-story that he has been working on.  It seems extremely odd that last issue we get the set up for the return of Brother Night and then, in the very next issue, we get to what amounts to a fill-in issue.  There were similar problems with Streets Of Gotham, if I remember correctly, in which Dini was there, then not there, then back.  Mind you, as long as the fill-ins are enjoyable, I don’t really mind, but its frustrating.  And, as I said, with the relaunch, I am worried that Dini’s finale will be compressed and will lack the oomph.  But I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Hey look, the cover confirms that Zatanna has a backwards dictionary (or yranoitcid).
