Synopsis

Beast Boy goes to visit Raven to talk about what happened with her father and her step-brothers.  In San Francisco, Starfire and Nightwing discuss what happened to them when they were overcome with the deadly sin of lust, but they decide not to pursue it further.  Meanwhile, Raven tells Beast Boy that she is not a good person, that she is evil.  Her step-brothers agree.  The three of them then beat up Beast Boy and leave with their sister.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

Eh.  I can’t really muster enough energy to write much more than that.  It actually feels like Winick is actively trying to stretch out the premise of the issue before reaching the end.  It really does feel like filler.  What takes nearly 22 pages could’ve taken a couple of pages, especially when you consider nothing of interest or consequence takes place.  I mean, do we really need that much space for Kory and Dick to confirm they won’t be dating?  To compound the problem, there is nothing in Winick’s writing that makes the scene rise above flat and dull.  And I really don’t want to sound harsh, because I am probably one of the few people on this interweb thingy that likes Winick and his style of writing, but I don’t think this type of issue is one of his strengths.  Moreover, Winick is trotting over familiar territory, so there is a been-there-done-that vibe to it all. Granted the Titans have been around for a number of years so naturally there will be some repetition in plots, but as the opening arc for a new series, I am not sure this is the way to go.  I am willing to see if Winick can find something new in the story, but the way things have gone up to this point, I don’t think so.
