Synopsis
After a team mission in which Kid Devil inadvertently allowed the bad guy to escape, Kid Devil is left alone in Titans Tower. So, Kid Devil attempts to throw a party. It does not go well, although Kid Devil does befriend Terry Boltiansky, who also used to work in Hollywood. The next day, Kid Devil manages to run into Terry. After talking for a little bit, Terry reveals that he is Deadbolt and he wants Kid Devil to join the Terror Titans. Kid Devil refuses and fights, but is beaten down. One Titan down, now on to the rest of them.

My overall impression of this issue is that McKeever has some decent ideas and I like the way he is approaching this new storyline, but sometimes the execution does not quite work. The front part of the story, in which all of the Titans walk away from Kid Devil, was too harsh and too mean; it felt more like sledgehammer to get the point across than believable characters. The same is true for the big party scene as well as the Titans’ reaction to the party. Obviously, your mileage may vary, but I just found the entire situation stretching the point of believability and as such I just didn’t buy what McKeever was trying to sell.
I appreciate the effort to focus on Kid Devil in this issue, but the portrayal in this issue just does not feel right to me. Kid Devil is supposed to be the Bart Allen of the team, the character with the enthusiasm that does not quite match the ability which often results in the character being an annoyance more than anything. Yet, I don’t ever remember Bart being some incompetent as shown here or the rest of the Titans acting so mean towards Bart as shown here. I get what McKeever is trying to do, but it goes overboard to show how much the Titans mistreat him that it isn’t really believable. Strangely, I like the friendship between Terry and Eddie and was disappointed that McKeever did not spend more time with these two before Terry revealed who he was (and I also thought it stupid for the two to be fighting right away, ruining the dialogue, which I think would’ve had more of an impact if the two were talking rather than fighting).
