Synopsis

At the original headquarters of the Teen titans, Blue Beetle finds the JLA being held captive.  Blue Beetle attempts to free them, but is stopped by Future Flash.  Elsewhere, the Teen Titans battle various villains being controlled by Starro as their future selves watch.  Meanwhile, Blue Beetle defeats the Flash and rescues the JLA.  The JLA, however, has another emergency and leave to let the Teen Titans deal with the problem.  Just then, Kid Devil, Ravager, and Future Kid Devil return.  When Future Kid Devil sees Blue Beetle, he decides to kill him.  Again.  The Future Kid Devil is then joined by Lex Luthor and other Future versions of the Teen Titans.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

For as much as Johns’ original storyline was fantastic, I just can’t quite muscle up the enthusiasm fro this sequel.  Unfortunately, this issue was pretty much the same as the previous issue with the current Titans battling Starro and the future Titans at the same time.  At some point there needs to be some movement beyond this basic idea.  Or at least explain what the Future Titans are trying to do.  I still don’t understand the basics of their plan, especially when you consider the more the future Titans push, the more the current Titans refuse to become like their, well, future selves.  To make the situation worse, the ending to this issue seems too much like a similar scene in the Justice League of America in which Luthor is assembling a group of villains to combat the JLA.

I am also a bit annoyed with the way McKeever conveniently got the JLA out of the way.  Keep in mind, this is the same group in which the future Titans managed to defeat and capture, but now they are certain the Titans can take care of them and handle the situation.  Think about it:  They beat up Batman, so that means Batman is confident the Titans can defeat them.  Does that make sense?

On the right side of the final page, is that supposed to Stephanie Brown dressed kinda like the Huntress?  It could be, after all, other future titans appear who are supposedly dead.  I would guess that is Cassandra Cain kneeling down with Zatara and Aquagirl behind her.  I am not quite sure who the dude with the sword is supposed to be.

Finally, what exactly is this “watchtower” that Batman is referring to?  The JLA now has for its headquarters the Hall of Justice.  Is this a really bad mistake that somehow passed by an editor who was asleep during the editing process or (because it seems like such a bad mistake) something that was meant to be a hint?
