Synopsis
The Teen Titans are on the trail of Raven who in turn is trying to determine the traitor in the group. The titans have Bombshell, who claims Ravager is the traitor. Ravager denies this, but she agrees to return to Titans Tower. The team, along with Bombshell, then fly to Phoenix to find Raven. In Phoenix, Raven believes the time is right to make the Titans family again. In San Francisco, Marvin and Wendy reveal to Ravager they found what Raven took, a book with the pages ripped out to hide a Computer disc. On the plane, the Titans encounter Miss Martian, who claims to know the identity of the traitor. Before Miss Martian can say anything, Bombshell reveals that Miss Martian is really a White Martian and then tosses her off the plane. The Titans catch up to Raven in the church of Brother Blood. Raven sees them and tells them that Bombshell is the traitor. Unfortunately it is too late; bombshell’s men have already take down the Titans. She demands the disc. Before she can give it up, Ravager arrives to defend Raven, who is able to take the disc and toss into the well. From the well, Jericho has returned.
Review
This was an average issue, mostly because of the big nitpick I have below. Despite that, the reality is that this issue itself is not as important as the ending. After essentially killing him off early in his run on Teen Titans, Johns brings back Joey, Rose’s brother. I am ambivalent about his return just as I really did not care on way or the other when he died. I am curious to see how he and Rose will get along and how much Johns will have changed him. His body is already different but we still don’t know if he is mute or anything.
Last review I said I thought I knew the identity of the traitor: Kid Devil. It did not take me long to admit I was wrong and that it really was Bombshell. And that is the crux of the problem with this issue; it was fairly obvious that Bombshell was the traitor, long before the truth was actually revealed. As such I was more annoyed than anything else. The problem I have is that Bombshell is a new character without much backstory, so trying to tie her traitorous turn with the others in the Titans past is ill-conceived. We don’t know her, therefore we can’t grow to like her. The basis for any good traitor is making us like them; otherwise, they are just plain bad guys. The other part of the problem is that because we don’t know her, we don’t know who she is working for or why. At least if Ravager were the traitor, we could understand because she would be trying to get her brother back. But why would Bombshell want Jericho. Or why would Bombshell’s employers want Jericho.
As a side note, why would the Titans believe Deathstroke would want info on the Titans secret identities? Hell, only Robin is the one who has a secret identity and Slade would already know that through his connections with the Society. -- Review by MRB
