Synopsis
In Paris, the Brain has cloned a new body for himself. The Teen Titans and Doom Patrol are fighting the Brotherhood of Evil in an attempt to apprehend the Brain and Monsieur Mallah. Unfortunately, the clone is not holding, forcing Mallah to kill the body and take the Brain away. The rest of the Brotherhood, however, is caught by the Teen Titans and Doom Patrol. Later, Dr. Niles Caulder attempts to get Kid Devil to join Doom Patrol by claiming the titans don’t want him around. But the Teen Titans disagree and want him back. Mento interrupts and tells Caulder is tried of being manipulated and that he is no longer the leader of Doom Patrol. Cyborg tries to get beast Boy back to the Titans, but Beast Boy tells him that his belongs with Doom Patrol. Later, Wonder Girl decides to stay with the Titans and goes to find Robin to tell him. She finds him in the basement amongst the equipment to clone Superboy. He has failed once more and is frustrated. He tells Wonder Girl that he misses Superboy. She goes to comfort him and they kiss. They break apart and Wonder Girl flies away, leaving Robin alone.
Review
As with the last issue, I wonder about the extra focus on Doom Patrol. We do get a resolution of sorts as the members take control of the team and their lives from Dr. Caulder, but I still find it very odd that so much trouble is being taken with this new team when there does not appear to be future stories in the works. This is even more unsettling when it looks like some of the other stories featuring the Teen Titans seem to be truncated or not fully developed. I suppose Kid Devil’s character will be further defined in future episodes, but I fail to understand why he lied about Blue Devil or even what their relationship is supposed to be. It would have been nice to have a page or two of Kid Devil to deepen this appreciation.
I will, however, give Johns due credit for resorting the importance of Cyborg to the Teen Titans. I had a grin on my face (matched with, who is the green girl?) while reading the little bits and pieces of people confiding to the comatose Cyborg. It was a great moment and a great reminder that Cyborg really is the heart and soul of the team.
Why, exactly, does Brain need a clone? Why couldn’t her just take a body, remove the brain, and then place his brain inside? Wouldn’t that be easier?
One little bit that I liked: Robin was correct when he said they should go after Brain and Mallah first and if they didn’t the two would get away. Well they didn’t and Bran and Mallah did get away. Heh.-- MRB
