Synopsis

Victor Stone (aka Cyborg) attempts to call Gar Logan (aka Beast Boy) at the headquarters of Doom Patrol.  After failing to clone Superboy (again), Tim Drake (aka Robin) returns to his bedroom to find Rose Wilson (aka Ravager) in his bed, naked, waiting for him.  Robin resists her advances just as the alarm goes off to indicate an intruder.  In this case it is Cassie Sandsmark (aka Wonder Girl), who is looking for information on the Brotherhood of Evil.  Cyborg suggests they work together.  At that moment they get a call:  the Brotherhood of Evil is in New York.  With their jet, the Titans make it to New York with the intent to stop the Brotherhood.  In the ensuing battle, Kid Devil gets hurt and the Brotherhood gets away.  An EMT unit comes to help Kid Devil, but they are at a loss as to what to do with his physiology.  Luckily, Doom Patrol is on hand to help.

Review

Not a bad issue, although I am just a little hesitant to call it a good issue.  Part of the problem is that I am still annoyed at this whole Superboy cloning thing and I could not help but notice the Brotherhood of Evil wants to clone a new body for the brain.  Well, you can see how the two plot lines could eventually merge together.  The other part is Cyborg’s insistence in getting the “real” Titans back together.  Part of me understands where he is coming from, but part of me just does not think this is consistent with Cyborg’s personality.  He always seemed to me to be an open person, willing to give everyone a chance, but here he is shutting out Kid Devil and Ravager.  Again, I can empathize with him, I’m just not sure this is really Cyborg.

I am noticing a trend.  Some of the characters that I seem to really enjoy are those heroes that are not really heroes.  In the case of the Teen Titans, this would be Ravager (or Shiva in Birds of Prey).  For some reason the idea that both characters are part of a good guy team, not because they want to do good, but for another reason altogether makes them interesting.  Rose Wilson is basically hiding from her father and is scared, but she still retains the personality that made her such a pain in the ass to begin with.  I think I like the cynicism, the detached weariness that places them slightly away (and at odds) with the way the others act.  Regardless, though, when it comes time to fight, they are on the team, one hundred percent.

The news was announced just recently that there will be a Titans East book coming out soon, with Geoff Johns as the writer, so I was not that surprised when the call came for the team to go to New York.  I was surprised to see Doom Patrol at the end, unless parts of Doom Patrol split off to form the Titans East. It should be noted that the original Titans Tower when Dick Grayson was the leader was located in New York.  It has only been recently that they moved to San Francisco.  -- MRB
