Synopsis
[continued from Justice League of America #55] On the JLA satellite headquarters, Doomsday is searching for Cyborg Superman. Also there is Batman (Dick Grayson) and Dark Supergirl. As they are fighting, Supergirl feels herself getting sick. Batman tells her to get to sickbay, where a shield protects her from a dose of synthetic magic the satellite was releasing to combat the Kryptonian attack. Batman tells her to stay there. He has a plan. While she waits, Supergirl receives an examination from a hologram Dr. Mid-Nite. Elsewhere on the satellite, Cyborg Superman and Doomsday continue to fight. Cyborg Superman thinks he has defeated the monster, only to learn that Doomsday has transformed, becoming Cyborg Doomsday. The battle rages on. Meanwhile, Dr. Mid-Nite determines nothing is physically wrong with Supergirl so he suggests another consult with Dr. Fate. Actually, with psychiatrist Kent Nelson, who wonders if her Dark personality is a manifestation of her anger and sadness at the loss of her parents and New Krypton. Nelson tells her she needs to forgive herself. Elsewhere, Batman has reached his goal, a backdoor mainframe to disable the synthetic magic. Just then, the fight between Cyborg Superman and Doomsday spills into his location. Batman frays the mainframe. Moments later, Supergirl (back to her old self) appears to enter the fray. Supergirl attacks Doomsday. Angry, Cyborg Superman attempts to attack Supergirl. Batman yells out, then stops him. The yell distracts Supergirl long enough for Doomsday to grab her and Cyborg Superman. Doomsday then disappears, appearing on the other side of the sun where New Krypton had been [continued in Superboy #6].
Review by Binkley (e-mail)
Due to the fact that I am extremely behind schedule (by 3 months) completing reviews, the following few words will suffice until I can get back on track.
Good: The action was decent, the characterization was spot on, and it leaves enough mystery to make me want to read more. Yet, this was an odd issue. Supposed to be about Doomsday, but Robinson reversed Dark Supergirl, which had been a plot point in the main book of Justice League of America. Gotta be weird for new readers or even for those reading the paperback.
