Synopsis

Batman flies in front of the sun, recharging his new powers before he returns to Earth to continue his quest to rid the world of all crime.  However, he is attacked by Wonder Woman, who punches him to the moon.  At the Oblivion Bar, Superman and Zatanna find Silver Banshee and the magical broach that caused Batman to gain Superman’s powers.  On the moon, Wonder Woman and other heroes attempt to convince Batman to give up.  He refuses.  He then hears his mother’s voice.  He follows the sound to Crime Alley in Gotham City.  There, he finds his parents, who tell them they are proud of him.  They disappear.  Superman appears with the magical broach to return his powers.  Batman attacks Superman and destroys the broach.  However, Zatanna appears with the real broach and is able to use it to restore the powers to the World’s Finest.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

Did I call it?  I said in an earlier review at the beginning of this storyarc that Superman would use the deductive skills of Batman at the end.  And that is exactly what happened.  I would like to be able to pat myself on the back, but frankly this story lacked any sort of, well I don’t want to say originality but it certainly was innovative or anything.  It was just kinda there, going through the motions to hit all of the necessary beats until the end.  It wasn’t bad, yet I can’t say there was anything to turned me off or made me angry or upset to read.  It was an average comic with a somewhat predictable story.

The scene at the Oblivion Bar and with the Silver Banshee was a head scratcher, in the sense that I don’t understand the structure and content.  I mean, did the brawl serve any purpose, other than provide a chance for action scenes?  And then, when we get to Silver Banshee, the confrontation was devoid of any sort of tension.  It was anticlimactic.  I think it might’ve been more apropos if Superman needed to fight Silver Banshee and use his deductive reasoning that he gained from Batman to defeat her.  Anything other than just simply walking up to her and taking it away.

What was the purpose of the new Superman suit?  Did it do anything or serve any purpose within the plot or the story.  It was a big deal at the end of the last issue, but it doesn’t add much value in this issue, and in fact disappears by the end.  Hell, when Superman faces Batman at the end, he isn’t even wearing the suit.
