Synopsis
In his attempt to rid the world of Kryptonite, Superman attacks Metallo and rips the Kryptonite from his chest. Later, Batman locates a new form of Kryptonite at the Oblivion Bar, the interdimensional bar for magical beings. There, they find silver Kryptonite in the form of a magical talisman. When Superman decides he needs to touch it, he is knocked unconscious. When he awakens on the JLA Watchtower, he sees strange sights and gets the munchies. Meanwhile, Zatanna recognizes the talisman and tells Batman the side effects can be countered be getting the other half of the talisman, which is located on Dinosaur Island. They find the talisman inside a volcano and return it to the JLA Watchtower and return Superman to normal.

Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me. The new form of Kryptonite is actually just a version of marijuana? This is the issue in which we see Superman get high, score some munches and play video games. And then this supposed to show Superman exactly what his heart desires, which he translates into a day off once and awhile. I suppose we all need to get high every so often. But I think what makes it worse is that the other half of the talisman shows Batman what his heart desires. I suppose in theory this is a nice idea, but it has been done to death over the years that it lacks any kind of narrative oomph. This issue did absolutely nothing for me, although I must admit I did love Davis’ rendition of the JLA through the eyes of Silver-K addled Superman.
Did the word “end” at the, well, end of the issue indicate that this storyline is finished? If so, it seems like a weird to end it. Did they get all of the Kryptonite? Did they decide not to bother with getting it all? It is just a very strange way to end this storyline (if indeed it has ended).
Although it was nice to see the members of Shadowpact in the Oblivion Bar, including the stone statue of the Demon Etrigan (last seen in this issue), it would’ve been even nicer if the text had referenced them in some way, perhaps to get readers to realize who they are and perhaps check out the book. It would have also been nice if Batman hadn’t located the Oblivion Bar, a magical bar that cannot be detected by someone without magic, with his computer. As far as I know, the door to the bar changes location constantly, meaning that big sign that reads “Oblivion Bar,” is rather stupid.
