Synopsis
In Gotham, Superman and Batman watch actors portray versions of themselves in a movie. During a break, Livewire barges onto the set to kidnap and then ransom the lead actor. Superman intervenes to save the actor. In the battle with Livewire, Superman is bombarded with Kryptonite. Watching, Batman calls the Justice League for help. The Flash arrives and takes Superman to the Fortress, where Alfred tends to the injuries. After he heals, Superman approaches Batman and asks for his help to round up every piece of Kryptonite on Earth. When Batman runs a program to find all of it, they realize there was much more than they had originally thought.

I really, really liked this issue, which is something that I haven’t said about this series in some time. The characterization of the two stars was handled well, there were some humorous moments (especially with the Flash and the spoof on superhero films was spot on), decent action scenes (the fight with Livewire), and the plot actually builds upon events earlier in this series, namely Supergirl’s arrival (from issue #8). Plus, the idea of trying to find all of the Kryptonite makes perfect sense. If there is something that can kill you, you should do whatever you can to get rid of it. I also liked Green’s description of what was being done with the K, from engagement rings to real props. I can imagine that if there were pieces of glowing planet shards were found on Earth that it would get sold as trinkets.
The name of the movie, based on the writing on the “prop” Kryptonite is “Batman Beginnings.” The actor playing Batman is Jason Wish, who apparently played Bond once before. So that means they got a British actor to play an American Superhero. In case you didn’t know, Christian Bale was born in Wales, England. I liked the touch of the director wearing a shirt with that states “Hush Wear.”
