There is no way this comic book can be reviewed in any sense or at least I don’t think I can do it, nor do I think I should.  This issue was created as a tribute to Sam Loeb, Jeph’s son, who died recently at a very young age.  It is Sam’s story fleshed out by writers and artists were are/were friends of Jeph Loeb.  Proceeds from this comic will go a scholarship created in Sam’s name.  So, you can see this is less about telling a story, but honoring someone who died long before he should’ve.  It is a mish mash of art, writing, style, and tone, but it is that jumble that makes it great because you can just see (and feel) the love for Sam coming through the pages.

Sam’s Story

Written by Jeph Loeb

Art by Tim Sale

Synopsis

Pa Kent tells a story from Clark’s past about the death of a friend named Sam.

Review

Before I read this story, I knew the reason why this comic book was created and certainly why Jeph wanted to tell this story.  I do not think any story for some time will be able to reach my heart the way this tribute to Sam has done.  I don’t think it matters if you know the real Sam.  It is a moving story, helped mightily by Tim Sale’s art.  Just beautiful.
