Synopsis

At Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, Batman continues his investigation into Kara and the spacecraft that brought her to Earth.  Batman does not entirely believe her story, but Superman believes his cousin and decides it is time for her to see the rest of Earth.  On Apokolips, Granny Goodness fails in her attempt to find a replacement for Big Barda.  Darkseid suggests the girl who fell to Earth.  In Metropolis, Clark and Kara walk around under Bruce’s watchful eye.  Suddenly, Clark and Kara are attacked by Amazons.  Kara attempts to fly away, but is caught by Wonder Woman’s lasso.  Diana drags her back down to Earth and tells Superman and Batman she is taking the girl.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

I was really, really enjoying this issue until the final few pages.  The Amazons attack on Clark and Kara absolutely made no sense whatsoever.  Aren’t Superman and Batman friends?  Why send the Amazons to attack when she could walk up to Clark and talk to him?  I hate, just hate, when there are gratuitous fight scenes.  And this one made no sense.  It partially makes no sense because I can’t for the life of me think of a good reason why Diana or the Amazons would want her.  As for the rest of the issue, I liked how the story was being played out, with Bruce’s reluctance to assume she really is what Clark is hoping she will be.  And the presence of Darkseid was handled well enough; at least his justification for wanting Kara makes a little sense, although I wonder why he would think she would be strong enough for the Furies.

Last review I mentioned how I have mixed feelings about Michael Turner’s art.  This issue is another reason.  I loved his depiction of Krypto, but Clark and Bruce look exactly alike and frankly both of them look like characters drawn in Witchblade.  I like Wonder Woman’s body, it looks muscular without it being too much, but her face looks completely wrong (or at least in my opinion).  To me, I like the way Kara has been drawn, but to be honest I have nothing to compare it to.

How silly is the final page.  Do we really need to have either Clark or Bruce (who knows who is speaking, although I think it is Clark) yell out:  “Wonder Woman!”  They know who she is, they don’t need to speak it again.
