Synopsis

In the midst of casting a spell to find Nightmaster, Nightshade, and Ragman, Enchantress, Zauriel, and Warlock’s Daughter end up falling into the Nightshade Dimension.  However, they also create an opening for the unbound to enter Earth.  The team devises a plan to stop the unbound.  While the rest of the team fights the unbound, Enchantress examines the spell cast on the unbound and introduces a type of “virus” into the spell.  Then Nightmaster steps into the middle of the unbound and with his sword spreads the “virus” to all of the unbound, freeing them from the spell.  Afterwards, Nightmaster decides he wants to stay in the Nightshade Dimension to help them rebuild.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

The resolution to this story reminded me a lot of the Will Smith movie Independence Day in which they defeated an advanced race of beings with a computer virus.  It didn’t make much sense that a primitive civilization (comparatively) could defeat the aliens in that way just like it doesn’t make any sense that ideas can be transmitted via a spell.  I guess that is the beauty of the magic; anything is really possible.  I should mention that the resolution to the story didn’t really bother me, I was just pointing out the similarities.  I actually liked this issue and liked the Nightmaster arc as he comes to terms with himself, his sword, and what he wants to do.  It will be interesting to see how long he stays in Myrra; I suspect that in the coming issues Shadowpact will be in dire straits and will pull him back to help them out when they need it.

The word balloons for Ragman are not consistent.  When he greets Zauriel (sans mask) the word balloon is green.  In the midst of fighting (with mask) the word balloons again are green.  When he says goodbye (sans mask) to Nightmaster the word balloon is white.  I am going to assume the first word balloon is a mistake.  And I have no idea why it was important enough to point out.
