Synopsis

In Vermont, Scandal Savage is grocery shopping when she bumps into Liana Kerzner, the stripper the rest of the Secret Six had hired to impersonate Knockout.  At the House of Secrets, Deadhsot has a date with Jeannette, but wants someone to go with him.  When she returns, Scandal agrees to go with him, taking Liana with her on the date.  While at a club, the group is spotted by a gang member who is upset with Deadshot.  When Deadshot goes to the bathroom, the gang member tries to attack him, but gets a face full of toilet for his troubles.  The foursome decide to go to another place, but are followed by the others from the gang.  They are able to defeat the gang.  They then go home for the rest of the date.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

This was an absolutely fabulous story, a transition between the storyarcs that builds upon previous events while delving deeper in the main characters.  This issue had the right mix of humor (including the meet cute at the pet food aisle of Val-Mart and the wonderful club featuring the Power Girl music group), seriousness (with a dose of philosophy on love), action, and deft characterization as well as a good story and a nice rumination on what it means to be lonely.  This is a comic that is very light on plot points and twists.  Instead we get a glimpse into the main character’s lives and loves.  It is the perfect type of comic that Simone excels at and this one is no exception; it is a wonderful comic.

The only drawback to this issue is that we learn very little about Jeannette.  I think this would’ve been the perfect chance to really allow her character to shine.  Except for a retelling of her origin to Deadshot a couple of issues ago, we know very little of her.  a story like this one would’ve been good to provide some more detail on who she is.  Simone, however, concentrates on Scandal and Deadshot and while what we got was terrific, I think we need a little more of Simone.

What happened to the number Liana wrote on the servant’s forehead.  It disappears quickly and we never see it again.

Ragdoll Dreams

Written by Gail Simone

Art by Amanda Gould

Synopsis

Ragdoll gets locked in the trunk of a car for an extended period of time and has weird dreams.

Review

Aw, yeah!  This was freaking awesome.  It managed to convey a lot of the wonderful humor from DC’s Tiny Titans book, but still retained Ragdoll’s patented perverse view of the world.  It is the perfect blend of the two.  Brilliant stuff.
