Synopsis

After Deadshot betrays the team to take Neron’s “Get Of Hell Free” card, the rest of the Secret Six chase after him towards Gotham City.  Meanwhile, Tarantula guesses that Deadhsot took the card in an effort to save the team’s life because she knows whoever gets the card will be attacked once they reach Gotham.  Just as Deadshot reaches Gotham, the Secret Six has caught up to him.  And so have dozens of various villains.  A big fight erupts.  Eventually Junior arrives.  He convinces everyone that the Secret Six have the card.  Tarantula grabs Junior and claims she has it.  The villains then kill both.  Everyone then scatters and leaves, with everyone thinking the card is gone, although Scandal managed to keep it without telling anyone.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

This is the issue in which the story goes completely off the rails.  Simone is going for some kind of anarchy-type fight in which everything is going on at once and spiraling out of control.  Call it controlled chaos.  It could work an I understand what Simone is going fore, but it doesn’t quite jell here.  Instead, what we get is a mess in which things happen that don’t make sense or do make sense but are glossed over and not really explored, such as Catman and Deadshot reconciling despite Deadshot attempting to kill him.  Or Deadshot allowing Tarantula to leave.  Or even Tarantula sacrificing herself.  It all just kinda happens with little explanation.  It is not bad.  There is a certain enjoyment

If all of the villains thought Tarantula had the card, why would they blast her with everything they have?  Does it make sense to burn to a crisp the person you think has the card?  Wouldn’t the card go with it?  Or did they all just fire at her not thinking others would do the same thing at the same time?  Having said that, I did like the idea of Tarantula purposely going after Junior, knowing what would happen when she lied about the card.

What was the purpose of the role of the Mad Hatter, other than to have someone hire the Secret Six to retrieve the card? Otherwise, the Mad Hatter’s role is very minimal, with the Secret Six dealing with the Mad Hatter in a comical manner.  Simone spent some time setting up the Mad Hatter attempting to get this massive revenge, but nothing was not really made of it.

To be honest, I kinda expected the last couple of pages to show Tarantula returning to Gotham having used the card to get out of hell, which is where she should have gone when she died.  Well, I guess she died.  I suppose there is wiggle room to suggest that she may have lived.  She and Junior were in flames, but they did land in water that might douse the flames.  Anyway, if Tarantula used the card, it serves the purpose of removing the card from the DC universe so that it doesn’t become an issue.  However, with Scandal holding the card, I am guessing that she might use it to return Knockout to life.
