If there is one thing that I have learned from reading Chuck Dixon comics in the past couple of months, is that his books are competent, good work from an expert craftsman. Dixon knows how to write comic books and this book and Batman and The Outsiders are good books with humor, decent action, and a readable mystery. On the flip side, there are nothing exceptional about these books (certainly nothing that will change the landscape of comics or the DCU), but, you know, Dixon’s writing is so much better that most others, that I’ll do his work anytime of the week.
I try to avoid previews of upcoming books as much as possible, but sometimes specials and mini-series are trumpeted by DC so loudly that it is hard to miss. In this case, I am referring to the upcoming Robin special featuring Spoiler in which the identity of Spoiler is going to be revealed. Didn’t this issue do just that? Granted, the woman under the mask is not named, so it could be any blond woman, but come on, how could it not be Stephanie? The moment in this issue seemed so weird, a moment that should’ve been big, but seemed almost like an afterthought.
Maxie Zeus was a criminal mastermind who believed he was the God Zeus. He first appeared in Detective Comics, issue #483 (1979). He was slain by Phobos when Ares’ children attempted to re-establish Ares’ rule on Earth, in Wonder Woman (Vol. 2), issues #164 to #167.
