Synopsis
A bomb has exploded rendering not only all technological machines unworkable like a magnetic pulse but also given all humans living in the area amnesia. The bomb is courtesy of Dr. Sivana. The Outsiders have been able to pinpoint Dr. Sivana’s tropical island lair and fly after him. On the island, they encounter Dr. Sivana inside a large mechanical suit, but the team is able to destroy the suit. However, before they can do more, Nightwing is hit by a poisoned dart. Dr. Sivana has the antidote, but he wants to talk to the Outsiders first. After all, they are on the same side.

Ah, the Judd Winick writing touch is in full force in this issue. I am, of course, talking about the opening sequence with the actor and his brother-in-law, two characters that have nothing to do at all with the Outsiders. While their fate is part of the plot, taking two to three pages to introduce these characters that have little impact on the plot is a bit excessive. This is the Judd Winick writing touch. Sometimes it works, other items it just takes up space. This time, however, ti completely backfires on him as the sequence takes away from the main characters. Take for instance Katana’s off hand remark about Japan revoking her citizenship. What about the rest of the team? We know they have recently been outed as not dead to the world, but we have not seen much in the way of the world’s response to this, except for Katana’s offhand remark. Or even how they feel about what the way the world reacted. Instead, we get a depressed actor.
Despite the beginning, the rest of the issue is pretty good and I liked the way Grace and Thunder took down Sivana’s robot. It was good solid action and the ending with Nightwing getting hit with the dart worked very well.
I liked Katana’s new outfit. I am not all that keen on her “cute” haircut but the outfit is nice.
