Synopsis

A truck owned by the Pierce Brothers is pulled over and hijacked by a number of thugs.  Jason Todd (aka Nightwing) appears on the scene to stop the robbery.  The hijackers are unconcerned -- until Jason shots one of them in the head.  At that moment, Dick Grayson (aka Nightwing) also appears and the two Nightwings fight until the Police arrive.  Later, the Pierce Brothers learn more about the Nightwing from Jakob, a mind-reader hired by the brothers.  Meanwhile, Dick goes to visit Clancy, who suggests that Jason has not grown up and in some fashion idolizes Dick.  The next day, Cheyenne Freemont decides to plan a fashion show around Super Heroes with Dick Grayson dressed as Nightwing.  While on the cat walk, Dick notices Jason sitting next to Cheyenne.  Dick attacks Jason.  While they fight, the crowd thinks it is part of the show.  Later, Cheyenne visits Dick at home and notices him dressed as Nightwing, heading out to foil a robbery.  Cheyenne comes to the rescue, using her meta-abilities to protect Dick.  Elsewhere, Jason is confronted by Jakob, who turns into a monster and attacks him.

Review

This entire story arc is a fricking train wreck.  The moment Dick stepped on to the cat walk dressed as Nightwing, the story officially jumped the shark, if there was such a concept for a comic book.  Not only does the idea that Dick need a job still odd, but the fact that he would agree to be a model is even stranger.  And why does he even need to be so close to Cheyenne (other than the sex)?  Is it to learn more about the Pierce Brothers?  Aren’t there better ways to go about this?  Dick did learn from the world’s greatest detective.  Shouldn’t he know more?  As I said, this is a train wreck and like an impending I can’t quite turn and look away.  I was actually enjoying this issue until the fashion show (and does one get a show together that quickly, anyway).  After that, with the fight and Cheyenne’s “rescue” it was all a mess, including the end.

The art for the Nightwing is still confusing and I am not quite sure which Nightwing is which without taking a few minutes to take a good look and figure it out.  I know how to fix it too:  give Jason a different mask.   Make just a slight alteration and it would help.

It was nice to see Clancy back into the mix, but I am now firmly convinced her presence was nothing more than a stunt.  Nightwing has seen her more than Dick, yet it is Dick that she is the supposed friends with a not Nightwing.  I realize that she is talking to the same person, but she doesn’t know that.  And if she does that (or it is revealed later that she knows), well, it should have been explained to the reader earlier (unless it was and I missed it).-- MRB
