The Spider Guild worships at the feet of the Lady Styx, who claims a new universe will be forged, if they only believe. Meanwhile, the Omega Men and former decide to split up so they can retrieve the heartstones. On Earth, Vril Dox and L.E.G.I.O.N assist with the clean-up of the Philippines caused by the Omega Men and the Spider Guild. Later, Vril Dox visits the Spider Guild, who have big plans for him.... Elsewhere, part of the Omega Men encounter a spider-ship, which overwhelms them, except for Prince Ryand’r (aka Blackfire). Tigorr and Lianna encounter the spider guild and are then approached by former Omega Men who Tigorr thought were dead, but are not part of Lady Styx’s Darkstars.

I am having a tough time with this series. There seems to be a lot going on; there are a lot of characters and the action ping pongs from one to another, but the more I think about or the more I look at it, them ore I realize that really not much is going on. For instance, the conversation between Vril Dox and Superman which boils down to exposition to describe how the spider guild knew where to look for the heartstone. And then Vril Dox states the Omega Men are still wanted although there are more dangers, as well. So, what exactly did this conversation add to the story? We already knew Vril Dox has a bug up his ass about the Omega Men and that he wants them in custody. We already know the spider guild is dangerous. Was this conversation a way to tease a future plan by Vril Dox, which is extremely possible given the difference in the way he looks compared to later in the issue. Or was it just filler. There are other such moments, such as Elu’s accusation that Blackfire and Lianna are working for the spider guild, which resulted in a fight that led absolutely nowhere and accomplished nothing.
Ultimately, the series has failed to grab me and make me interested in the characters or the basic plot, which is a shame for series that is only six issues. The only thing that is saving this series, at the moment, is the feeling that this (along with Mystery In Space) is the beginning of big, big events for the DCU in upcoming months.
