Synopsis

Some years later, Kate Spencer (aka Manhunter) is on the trail of Nellie Lovett, lover of Sweeny Todd, when she is suddenly helped by a masked stranger.  When Kate learns the masked man is her son, she freaks out.  She tries to talk to him about it, but he dodges the issue and takes off on a date with his boyfriend, Justin.  In California, Mark Shaw pays a visit to Dylan Battles.  Elsewhere, Ramsey and Justin meet up with Jade and her father, Obsidian.  In Downtown Los Angeles, Kate drops off Sweeny Todd’s razor to Director Bones.  When he opens the box and picks up the razor, Bones is suddenly possessed by the spirit of Sweeny Todd, much to Nellie’s delight.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

Let’s see if you can follow me on this one:  I don’t think this is the right way to go to end this series and for the first couple of pages I was upset about the jump in time, but, damn, if by the time I had finished this issue I was completely and utterly hooked.  I suppose the credit goes to Andreyko for writing such a vivid cast of characters.  They come so alive on the pages of this book that to see the same people in different situations had me intrigued to wonder not only what happened in those missing 15 years, but to follow them forward from this point onward.  However, I think that is the problem.  There is no forward point.  The book has been canceled.  Hell, even if hadn’t been canceled, I don’t see how Andreyko could keep the book at this timepoint since these scenes are taking place outside of the current DC continuity (and I am sure the editors made sure no characters outside of the Manhunter universe are referenced in any way).  So, really, this jump forward makes no sense (it also doesn’t help to have the villain 15 years later be a villain Kate recently fought; again, why even bother go forward in time).  Why not find a way to end the series in its current time, resolve the issue with Ramsey, Cam’s baby, and whatever else is deemed important.  The character of Manhunter will go on, even without the jump forward.  But this will probably be the only chance to complete the stories of the supporting characters.  Despite the jump forward, I feel like the current stories have been ended too soon without resolution.

Brody Jenner is the son of Olympic decathlete Bruce Jenner.  Brody is a model that is probably most famous for appearing in a bunch of MTV reality shows.
