Synopsis

In St. Roch, Black Lighting is fighting Trident and Dr. Impossible, who have come to take away Parasite.  Elsewhere, the Red Tornado visits the gravesite of Boston Brand (aka Deadman) to question why he was given a human body.  The Phantom Stranger appears and tells Reddy that it was not Boston Brand who did it to him.  He then tells Reddy that he must find himself.  Reddy decides to find his former body.  At the Rocky Mountains, Black Canary, Green Lantern, and Arsenal are also searching for Red Tornado, but instead have found hundreds of androids similar in appearance to Reddy.  Black Canary is able to find a weakness and Green Lantern subdues all of the androids at once.  They go in search of Dr. Ivo.  In Gotham City, Batman, Wonder, and Superman continue to pick and choose new members of the Justice League of America.  Meanwhile, Black Lightning is getting beat up by Dr. Impossible, but is saved by Hawkgirl.  After Dr. Impossible flees, they find something important on Trident’s body.  Elsewhere, the Parasite has been delivered to Dr. Impossible’s master.  Parts of the Parasite are added to Red Tornado’s body, which will eventually contain the master.  In Hub city, Vixen digs herself out of the rubble from the explsion caused by Plastique.  In the batcave, Black Lighting and Hawkgirl arrive to show Batman what they found.

It is about time!  I am talking about the moment at the very end where the Trinity actually has contact with the other plot running through the book.  At least now all of the various characters and actions are tied together in some manner.  Hopefully next time we will get some plot movement and a little bit more story than three people sitting around a table showing pictures to each other.  Okay, that may be a little harsh, but I found the decompression in the second issue did not work at all to my tastes, even though we started to get a sense of what the main villain was up to.  This issue, at least, hinted at how the league was going form and what the battle will entail.  Ultimately, while I found this issue to be a solid continuation of the story, for the first time I am excited to read what comes next.

I am a bit amused that the Trinity has spent all this time going over pictures, deciding who will be in or not in the new JLA, only to find that the league will come together based on pure happenstance after they defeat Dr. Impossible.  On the one hand it makes sense, since this is how the league came together for the first time, fighting a common threat as a group rather than meticulously choosing who will be in the league.  On the other hand (assuming I am right), it upsets me that Meltzer would lead us in a direction he obviously wasn’t going to finish.

Hey, look, it’s Hawkgirl.  Finally.
