Synopsis
Gerome McKenna runs out of Infinity Inc., claiming he didn’t do it, even though he is not certain exactly what he did. The rest of the team track him down, convinced of his guilt that he tried to rape Lucia. In Minnesota, Fogel uses the metagene cells from Gerome Number Two to power a large weapon to kill Infinity, Inc. Meanwhile, the team questions Gerome when suddenly he switched spots with Number Two, who tells the team where they can find Fogel. They also realize it was number Two who attacked Lucia. Soon, Infinity Inc. invade Fogel’s hideout, but Fogel manages to capture all of them, except for Gerome, who fights himself. Gerome Number Two wins the fight and kills his doppelganger. Fogel then turns on the weapon and deactivates the Everyman gene from everyone around the world, except for the members of Infinity Inc. However, Gerome loses his powers and then dies. Fogel then disappears along with the members of Infinity Inc. Later, Steel tells Superman he will continue to look for them, he knows they will be back.

Wait. This is the final issue of the series and DC couldn’t even come up with a proper resolution? Instead we get a note that tells us the story is going to continue in another series? Wow. I am not even sure what to think about that. I mean, at the very least, there should be some resolution to the main theme of the book, which is the manifestation of psychological problems for those in the Everyman Project. While I guess Fogel’s machine does that, it still doesn’t address Natalie’s problems or coming to grip with her problems. It ignores what she went through. And I am guessing wherever she pops up next the writer will ignore them as well.
I am amused that Fogel built this huge machine to deactivate the Everyman Project metagene. So this is the second time the powers of the Everyman Project have been deactivated. The first time (in the pages of 52) for the primary power and the second time for the secondary, psychological power that the kids were displaying. It feels like an apology, as if DC realized they made a mistake trying to give Infinity Inc. these new powers just to justify a book featuring them as superpowers. Except of course the members of Infinity Inc. still have their powers because they were protected by Fogel’s net. It doesn’t make sense and it makes my head hurt.
