Synopsis
In Little Bend, Montana, a young couple is attacked by a dark figure. In Metropolis, Gerome #3 attacks one of the other Geromes. Meanwhile, John Henry Irons asks the others to allow Mercy to join the team. After some debate, the team grudgingly agrees. Irons then presents the new uniforms for Infinity Inc. along with a new mission: to locate and protect members of the Everyman project. Two days later, the team arrives in Little Bend, where the locals are searching for the bogeyman. When they arrive at the address of the Everyman project member, the bogeyman attacks Mercy and Erik. Meanwhile, Gerome #3 attacks Gerome #2 and tells him that one of them has to go.

Even with the addition of Pete Woods, an artist I like and think works wonders for Milligan’s rather odd writing, this title still hasn’t quite reached a solid foundation. At least in this issue there seems to be a focus to a plot, with the new team acting like a team and Irons sending them out on a specific mission, rather than the disjointed vignettes that Milligan had been writing. This is perhaps the most straightforward of the issues so far and combined with Woods’ art, is easily the best of them so far. But that is damning with faint praise. The inter-team conflict, which is the heart of the book, doesn’t quite jell or make sense to me, since I can’t quite figure out why Gerome hates Lucia. For that matter, why is Lucia on the team and what kind of superpower does she have, other than cutting herself. Was it ever explained or did I miss something? At least with Mercy, whose powers have never been explained, I can understand a little bit why she is on the team. Even if she were human (rather than a meta), she should have battle/combat training from her days as Luthor’s bodyguard, which is more than can be said for the rest of them. Speaking of Mercy, I am not quite sure how Natalie was manipulated into accepting her onto the team. It seems to me that Natalie changes her mind without any pushing or prodding from Irons. Hopefully, Milligan will be able to make sense out of all of this as the team coalesces around the mission. And the new costumes.
