Synopsis

Kendra Saunders (aka Hawkgirl) stops Four-Eyes and his associate Bigfoot at a warehouse in the Chatelaine district, although they are able to get away.  Two hours later, Kendra is at Stonechat Museum for the fundraiser.  She attempts to talk to banker Ivan Boscovitch, but he walks away from her.  The next day, Kendra learns that Ivan declined to renew the museum’s loan.  It seems Ivan is being blackmailed by Roderic to turn down the loan.  Later that night, after Kendra falls asleep, she dreams of flying over the handmaidens of Bast, who pull her down towards the cat’s head, when she wakes up.  Meanwhile, the police learn of a tip of something about to go down at the docks.  Elsewhere, several watch Ivan before releasing a sound that may even wake the dead.  The next morning, Kendra wakes up to rain.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

The first time I read this issue, it wasn’t half bad; a quick read with events from previous issues slowly coming into focus.  However, the second time I read it, I barely could through it.  I realize that most people don’t read an issue of a comic book a second time as quickly as I do (which I do for the purpose of these reviews, lucky you), so I guess you should take my assessment of the first read more than the second read.  The problem I have with Hawkgirl (and have had since the series was re-titled) is the art layouts.  I just can’t get used to the faces of boxes.  It looks as if all of the characters are gritting their teeth.  Yeah, yeah, I know, I said it before in one of the other reviews, but I can’t help myself.  Getting off the subject of the art, however, and to the writing, and I must ask one question:  why doesn’t Bruce Wayne fund the museum?  He appears in this issue, which is why I though of it, so his character is aware of it.  He has helped out others before, why not Kendra?
