Synopsis

Kendra Saunders (aka Hawkgirl) is trapped in the basement, alone except for a monster coming out the dark when suddenly...she awakens from a dream.  Kendra checks out the basement of the museum, but finds it is completely different that in her dream.  Meanwhile, an unknown man blackmails a member of the bank board to provide negative input for the upcoming loan extension for the St. Roch museum.  Later, Kendra and Danny are eating dinner when an alarm sounds.  Danny goes to investigate as Kendra calls 911 and then turns into Hawkgirl.  She finds a hooded man attacking three people.  The hooded man looks like the one from her dream at the church.  Hawkgirl subdues the man, but when the hood is lifted, the body disintegrates.  Elsewhere, a lone figure laments the failure of the repeater and plays a tune on the flue that might even wake the dead.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

The overall story that is slowly developing would be more interesting if I wasn’t having such a hard time reading it.  As I had stated in the review of the previous issue, the art and the layouts are very distracting.  The multitude of small boxes with just the eyes is getting tiresome and a lot of the people look as if they are gritting their teeth and trying to grin.  Is it just me or does it look like Danny is about to kiss Kendra on page 8?  At the top of page 8, why is there an insert o Danny’s face over a drawing of Danny?  What exactly is the purpose?  I suppose it is to show his face since the main drawing of the panel has his back turned, but the effect of the box on top of the panel is distracting.

The story, however, is interesting, with one of Kendra’s dreams coming true.  I wonder if it means the second dream will come true.  I really, really was annoyed by the Bobby Ewing moment but if there is a rhyme or reason to it (such as her dreams coming true), then I can forgive it.  But I’ve got to wonder, was the person placing the paper into the stack of paper in the previous issue part of her dream or did it really happen?
