On Thanagar, Hawkman and Hawkgirl, along with Captain Comet, are attempting to help end the war. In the midst of battle, Hawkman comes face to face with a winged Thanagar warrior who reveals himself to be Cha’l Andar, the former Charley parker (aka Golden Eagle). Before Cha’l can kill Hawkman, however, his father intervenes and convinces his son to dipense with revenge and fight for peace. At the moment, Durlan Bio-Ships attack. Cha’l leads the charge. However, behind the Durlan ships is Blackfire and her minions.

If it wasn’t for the fact that there are only two more issues before the One Year Later jump and the shift in title to Hawkgirl, I would be tempted to toss this series on its ear based on this issue. And I say this for one simple reason: Golden Eagle. Are you telling me that among all of the warriors who have died and among the entire planet full of warriors still fighting, it just so happens that not only do Charley and Carter run into each other, but they do it in front of Charley’s missing father. Is this the biggest coincidence in the world? It must be, because my bullshit alarm went off like a Christmas tree. And that is not a good sign.
I had hoped that the Golden Saga was finished and we wouldn’t have to deal with this relationship anymore. But even if we do, did we need the sudden dawning of understanding that leads him to toss aside his thirst for revenge so he can fight on the same side of the Hawks. Can I predict now that Cha’l (or his father) will probably die in the next two issues and the former criminal will be considered a hero. Or the father will die and Cha’l will blame Hawkman, thus resetting the animosity between the two.
At the very least, this issue had more scenes of Hawkman handing out a butt whooping to some meanie alien creatures. This is always a good thing.
