Synopsis
[continued from Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #10] On Oa, the green lantern corps confront the Guardians of the universe, who have been infected by the entities of the emotional spectrum. However, the sheer force of the corps isn’t working. Hal Jordan has a better idea: he tells Kyle Rayner to draw in the Book Of The Black a picture showing the New Guardians escaping from the book. Their power rings lock onto them, but almost immediately are overridden. Krona has take all of the rings. Krona attacks Ganthet. He then attacks Hal. Sinestro comes to help. Just then, Sinestro is chosen as a Green Lantern and given a power ring. Sinestro and Hal then fight back, with Hal killing Krona and freeing the Guardians. Afterwards, the Guardians declare Hal Jordan too dangerous. They strip him of his power and send him back to Earth.

“This isn’t how it’s supposed to end.”
In some ways this ending to the war was a little underwhelming. You would think that after all of this Korna would’ve put up a better fight. Mahnke and his corps of inkers do a fantastic job; the images are suitably impressive, especially the splash of Hal killing Krona. But I think the big pages taks away from what should’ve been a more emotionally charged fight. Instead, it kind whimpers to the finale. But I can’t complain all that much; how Johns got to the end was no so much as important as what happens at the end. And the ending was killer, a shocker in what happened that certainly changes the status quo.
The ending was not much a surprise. With the solicitations already up for the relaunch and DC being coy about who is in the book, it seemed pretty obvious what was going to happen. I found the decision to change Sinestro back to a Green Lantern to be a little obtuse; I don’t quite get it (see below for questions). As for Hal’s status quo, I thought that made sense and frankly I thought it should’ve been done a long time ago. I am curious to see what Johns does with Jordan (and with Sinestro) and how the new book will shake out and how long it will take to bring back Hal to the corps (and Sinestro back to wearing yellow).
I really hope that Johns finds a better way to explain why Sinestro would suddenly be given a green power ring than the essentially non-explanation we have here. Did he overcome great fear when he decided to attack Krona? Did the powers-that-be find his unselfish devotion to protecting one of the corps worthy of making him a member? Does it have anything to do with Hal’s speech about potential of the corps, despite its flaws? Yes, I get that the speech helped Sinestro make up his mind ot help, but home much of his mind was changed, enough to help Hal at that moment or something even more than, perhaps a fundamental change in his thinking?
Oh, by the way, with Mogo dead, how did Sinestro get a power ring. Who is making the rings and who is deciding who to give them to?
Does Indigio-1’s insistence on knowing where Abin Sur is located have anything to do with Flashpoint (where Abin Sur is alive and the current Green Lantern of Sector 2814). While it has been noted that she and Bain Sur have some sort of history, I also got the impression that she knew he was dead. To have her think he was alive is curious.
I think it is fascinating that Larfleeze is trying to keep the orange power rings away from him. I wonder if this is something that Johns will come back to, or whomever will be writing the New Guardians book in the next few months,
Whatever happened to the dude who was trying to control minds from the unknown sector that was a big part of the Emerald Warriors book for awhile? Did I miss something?
