Synopsis

The Sinestro Corps are attacking Earth.  Hal Jordan realizes their intent too late:  most of the Green Lantern Corps have been retreating to Oa.  Jordan calls for back-up, but it may be too late.  While the heroes of Earth battle the Sinestro Corps, Hal races to save his family from Parallax.  To do that, he must separate Kyle Rayner from the Parallax host.  In the battle, he is pulled into Parallax.  However, he and Kyle then work together to free themselves.  Meanwhile, the Lantern Corps finally arrive on Earth to change the tide of the war.  Just as Hal and Kyle free themselves from Parallax, Ganthet and Sayd arrive on Earth.  The duo then recapture Parallax.  Then the four Green Lanterns of Earth power up their rings and prepare for battle.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

Like the previous issues of this storyline, Johns and Reis toss the reader into the story right from the beginning and never lets up on the frantic pace and the intensity of the action.  Even the quiet moments have an intensity all its own, especially when Hal confronts Kyle about the loss of his mother.  It is fantastic stuff, with scenes careening across Earth and with a multitude of different characters and it all fits well into the story; nothing feels extraneous and nothing is confusing.  Johns’ story perfectly balances everything he wants or needs to say.  Amazingly, there are no scenes or characters I want to see less or more than others; it all balances out perfectly.  Johns has crafted a superb epic and this issue is no exception.  I love the way the issue is bracketed by the Sinestro motto at the beginning to the Green Lantern motto at the end.  In between we get moments of triumph for the Sinestro Corps has they demolish New York City and then a moment of success for the Green Lanterns has they dispatch on their opponents biggest hitters.

I realize that Geoff Johns is from Michigan, but what the hell is the deal with the University of Michigan sports logo doing on the batteries carried by Ganthet and Sayd?
