Synopsis

The Zamoroans have arrived on Earth and tell Jordan to let love protect him by accepting the love the Star Sapphire offers to him.  Jordan doesn’t want that, so he attacks the Zamoroans.  Meanwhile, Carol Ferris removes the Star Sapphire from Jillian “Cowgirl” Pearlman.  No longer attached to a host body, the Star Sapphire searches for Jordan’s love but can’t decide between Carol or Cowgirl.  It demands Jordan choose.  With a kiss, Jordan chooses one of the Zamoroans.  The Star Sapphire bonds to the Zamoroan, but when she becomes too powerful, the rest of the Zamoroans take her away.  Later, the Zamoroans decide to alter the Star Sapphire, changing it into a ring with its own power lantern.

You know, I mentioned in the review of the last issue that I thought Johns was just marking time until he could start the next big thing in this titel, and the ending to the storyline just kinda proves my point.  The ret-con of the Star Sapphire and Zamoroans was just a way to get where he wants to the go with the newest power ring (Pink Lanterns?).  For some time now, Johns has been building to the Tales of the Sinestro Corps and the Zamoroans are obviously going to be part of that larger story. That is not to say the story wasn't good, but the story was thin, an excuse to hang the history of ret-con, tie it back in the Green Lanterns in general and Hal Jordan in particular.  It also gave Johns a chance to reconnect Hal and Carol, although personally I think Cowgirl would be a better match.  But that's just me.

Still, I love the moment when Jordan outwitted Zamoroans at their game and in the process managed to act like Captain Kirk by making out with the alien chick.  And he still was able to insult her when it was finished.

TALES OF THE SINESTRO CORPS

The Fear Within

Written by Geoff Johns

Art by Dave Gibbons

Synopsis

Lyssa Drak, the keeper of the Book of Parallax, relates to Amon Sur the story of Bedovian, who waits thousands of years for the right moment to strike.  Meanwhile, Amon Sur enters the fear lodge to face that which he fears the most:  Hal Jordan.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

Of the three back-up stories, this is probably the weakest of the bunch.  I am not quite sure how one can instill fear in others by sitting in rock for over 600 hundred years waiting for its next meal.  But that may just be me.   Plus, why would miners occupy an asteroid for a significant amount of time and not bother to investigate the large boulder sitting right in the middle of their camp?  It is just sitting there!

The story is also a little weak due to the fact that a portion of the story was devoted to wrapping up Amon Sur’s story.
