Mystery Of The Star Sapphire, Part 1

Inks by Daniel Acuña
Cover by Ivan Reis and Oclair Albert
Synopsis
Flying an airplane over Southern California, Carol Ferris is suddenly possessed by the Star Sapphire. Hal attempts to capture her but the Star Sapphire leaves Carol’s body and possesses Cowgirl.

This issue felt like filler, as if Johns was marking time. The issue went from explaining the current status of Ferris aircraft to providing Carol’s back story and current story to getting the Star Sapphire into Cowgirl’s body. Except for that last part, I am not sure how important the rest of the information happened to be, other than to fill out the pages of this issue. Johns does not seem to be all that interested in Star Sapphire, except in terms of defining the origin of the Zamoran rock. I am curious to see what Johns has in store with that story, but he has taken a an issue just get there.
As an aside, what happened to the first woman Star Sapphire encountered, several issues ago? In fact, what happened since that first moment when Star Sapphire appeared?
Someone is going to get a tongue lashing at DC. The little squiggly thing over Acuña’s last name is in the wrong spot (over the “u” rather than the “n”) on the cover.
TALES OF THE SINESTRO CORPS

Art by Dave Gibbons

I like this. It was short, it was sweet, and it got its point across. It also helps to know that there are more of these and that they are leading to something down the road. Johns is slowly developing the idea of the Sinestro Corps. I hope it leads to something good.
