Synopsis

One year later…Hal Jordan (aka Green Lantern) is after the Ingenious Man, who has been hired to kill Jordan.  However, they are fighting over Russian airspace and the Rocket Reds try to apprehend not only the Ingenious Man but also Hal Jordan for violating the Freedom of Power Treaty.  During the fight, Jordan tries to save a Russian airplane for crashing, reminding him of his own crash months before when he was captured and became a prisoner of war.  Later, Jordan wakes up to find to a televised warning from the global guardians condemning Green Lanterns actions.  Oliver Queen (aka Green Arrow) stops by also to remind Jordan of the treaty.  In Sector 674, Arkillo of the planet Vorn is given a yellow ring and an invitation to join the Sinestro Corps.  At Edwards Air Force Base, Hal Jordan is being awarded the POW medal of honor when suddenly a plane crash lands during the ceremony.  Jordan investigates and finds Green Lantern Tomar Tu of Sector 2813 in the pilot’s seat, except Jordan killed him...

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

This was a good, solid and very packed issue from Geoff Johns.  As the writer of Infinite Crisis, Johns would now best what to expect in the aftermath and he uses this to its fullest impact.  He introduces a lot of plot points that are obviously related to the missing year, including the global guardians and the power treaty.  It shall be interesting to see how these things develop not only from its beginning in 52 but also how it will impact Jordan in the future.  The same is true for his time in the POW camp, which may occur sometime around Christmas if the “five months” ago is any indicator.

I also mentioned in one of my earlier reviews of Green Lantern that Johns was not going to shy away from exploring Jordan’s past, either as the Spectre or as Parallax.  The final panel of this issue certainly bears that out as it looks as if Jordan may certainly come face to face with everything he had done as Parallax.

I am split on my opinion of the Sinsetro Corp.  On the one hand, I kinda like the idea of Villains gathering together to wreck havoc, but on the other hand this was already done before Infinite Crisis and at the end of the Infinite Crisis.  What exactly could Sinestro do to Jordan and the rest of the Corps, or is this going to specifically focus on Jordan.  The Sinestro Corps would work better against the entire corps so maybe this is a set up to the new monthly coming out soon for the Green lantern Corps.

It is nice to see Ivan Reis as the penciller; I really enjoyed his work on the Rann/Thanagar mini series.  Let’s just hope he stays on the title longer than some of the other artists in the short number of issues for the current Green Lantern title.

In case you are interested, these are the Global Guardians:  Jet (Mach Two - Jamaica), Gloss (China), Tasmanian Devil (Australia), Manticore (new version - Greece), and Sandstorm (new character - Syria).
