Synopsis
Dinah Lance (aka Black Canary) visits Star City to make sure Ollie is doing okay after the assassin Drakon had invaded his house, which resulted in Mia being sent to the hospital. At the Grell Museum, an ancient artifact from the Russian exhibit is stolen. The next day, Ollie and Connor learn that other artifacts had been stole in they past 3 weeks. They are able to get a lead on the thieves and are able to capture the truck with the stolen merchandise. But when they open one of the crates, they find the artifact gone and a riddle has been left behind.
Review by Binkley (e-mail)
“When is a picture impossible to see? When it has been taken.”
This was an enjoyable issue. Winick finds the right balance between wrapping up the previous storyline, allowing some of those events to continue to percolate, and then sets up the next big storyline with the cliffhanger. Plus, there was plenty of humor, especially the crooks and the harnesses or Ollie’s advice when wearing leotards, which is always a bonus for me. I liked the scenes with Dinah, from her narration about Ollie and Star City to her questioning of Ollie regarding Joanna Pierce’s death. Winick handled this well, as it is obvious that Dinah knows something is up with Ollie and has the feeling that he is not telling her, but she can’t quite pin point why. I also liked how well Connor and Ollie work together. Winick is incorporating the Green Arrow family well into this book, even Roy’s presence is felt, even though he is with the Outsiders (and I think it helps that Winick has been writing both titles).
Comic Connection
Roy Harper (aka Arsenal) was shot in the Outsiders, issue #5 (December 2003).
