Synopsis

On Clustral, Guy Gardner has been left alone to fend for himself after Lanterns Quond and Tanakata Z return to their sector house.  Gardner promises to kick their ass when he is done.  Meanwhile, Lanterns Soranik Natu and Iolande are sent to Nibelos to investigate the activities of the Childen of the White Lobe, who are mining Terillium to be used as a bomb.  In Sector 3009, the Green Man turns on his partner, killing him.  On Mogo, Kilowog is visited by memories of Bolovax who want him to stay and rest forever with them.  On Rann, Vath Sarn and Isamot are recalled to duty.  On Oa, the Guardians inform Salaak of a prophecy in which the destruction of Oa is foretold.  Meanwhile, Gardner returns to the Sector House to punish the Lanterns who left him, but he finds someone else go there first and killed them.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

Too much, much too much.  Besides the five or so different stories and plots, Gibbons tossed on top of all this a prophecy that may lead to the destruction of Oa.  For me at least, the parts (all of which are all quite good) are better than the sum when they are mashed together into 22 pages (five plots each getting about 4 pages).  I think I would prefer one or two issues of each story with the reading stretching from beginning to end rather than having it stretched out over five or six issues with each part cut up by other parts.

The thing about these parts is that they don’t really come together.  I think I wouldn’t mind it if some of the characters (like Sath Varn and Soranik) and the plots collided in some way.  In this issue, I got a kick out of the fact that Children of the White Lobe first encountered Gardner on Ranx and were now dealing with Soranik Natu and Iolande on a different planet.  But even this connection as been stretched thin by several issues and disconnected storyline (The Corpse).

Given one of the warnings (Weaponers of Qward) and that the prophecy was originally told to Abin Sur (whose son was just given a yellow ring), I suspect that the prophecy might be tied into the “Tales of the Sinestro Corp” (written by Gibbons) and that eventual storyline that is currently underway in the Green Lantern book.
