Synopsis

After the Dominator leaders reject his plan to genetically evolve, the scientist decides to inject himself and exact some revenge.  He then decides because he has evolved beyond his people is going to rule over the Dominators as a God.  Meanwhile, Von Daggle infiltrates the dominator homeworld and finds the evolved Khund the Dominator scientist had used as test subject.  Von Daggle then takes R’Amey to find the artifact the scientist used for the sudden evolution while Guy Gardner is sent after the Khund.  Gardner attacks the Khund, but the battle is interrupted by the evolved scientist, who then tortures guy.  The mega-Dominator and the Khund then find Daggle and R’amey.  The Dominator literally tears R’amey apart, finding inside her the green lantern disc, which he promptly eats.  He then decides it is time to pay Earth a visit....

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

Whew, man, no kidding when they say this is the dark side of the green. This story is extremely dark.  Even putting aside the apparent deaths of all of the main characters, the villains are a nasty bunch and they do nasty stuff to everyone they meet.  The art is just as dark and perfectly suits the mood of the story.  The dark, midnight suits the Corpse wear also suit the story very much.  For a small storyline within this title, I think the tone and the mood works beautiful, but I don’t think this would work for the long term.  I love what its being done here, but I doubt I would be able to last too much longer with such dark stories.

I find that stories with shape-shifters are much like watching magician, you always have to watch for the sleight-of-hand, that brief moment when one character easily becomes another so that you are not reading what you think you are reading.  In this case, I think the fight between Daggle and the Khund ends with Daggle winning and then taking over the Khund’s physical form.  I am hoping that the Dominator, who should have high mental capacity, should recognize the ruse right away, but not that soon that Guy can join fray and win the battle.  Oh my, did I just predict that next issue.

I am split on the brief scene with Daggle commenting about his hatred for Hal Jordan.  One the one hand this makes sense given Jordan’s actions as parallax and given the story Daggle gives what happened to him and his team when the Corps power was snuffed.  But I am also getting tired of this particular plot point; at some point Jordan should not be held over the fire for what he did.  Writers and editors should just let it go.
