Synopsis
In New York City, Mia and Dodger stop a bunch of thieves and then go out on a date. Meanwhile, Ollie is angry that Dodger would want to date Mia, but Dinah thinks Ollie is frustrated that Connor Hawke is not his normal self. Connor does not remember much of who he was. And when he drops a kitchen knife in his foot, the wound miraculously heals itself. Ollie and Dinah realize they need some people to evaluate him.
Review by Binkley (e-mail)
“I’ll kill him. And I don’t mean facetiously like kicking his butt. I mean actually putting arrows in him until he is a corpse.”
This issue is divided into two parts: Mia’s part and Connor’s part. Neither section really interested me, although neither section really bored me to death. Mia’s date with Dodger was nice to see; I like it when a writers take time out to show heroes outside of their costumes, but I thought it went on too long and the HIV discussion took the air out of what should’ve been a fun scene. Sadly, I don’t think there was any way around Mia’s status. If Winick fails to address it, he would catch flak for it. And when he does address it, it drags the story down in needless pathos. In contrast, the Connor scene had the right amount of pathos, but was too short. And has gone on for far too long, if that makes any sense. I am not entirely certain whether it is a good idea to continue the Connor saga beyond what Winick did for the past year. I think I have said it before, but this series needs to get back to the newlyweds, not the sidekicks. This is, after all, called Green Arrow/Black Canary and neither of these characters have been the focal point of the story. Yes, Ollie and Dinah occupy most of the pages and are in the center of the action, but Connor has been the focal point, the source of the and reason of the action, first of their search and now with his health, which will probably go on for at least several more issues. Hopefully, it will be soon and we can get back to Ollie.
Here’s a question for you: if the chili has meat, how did Connor get it in the first place? Ollie wouldn’t be so stupid as to give it to Connor to begin with. And don’t you think with Ollie standing right there, he would stop Connor from dishing it out?
