Review by Binkley (e-mail)

I really do not know what to make of this issue.  On the one hand, I thought it was well done. It was a great way to provide some insight to the character while detailing the history of the character.  It managed to encapsulate the life of Larry Trainor and it managed to make sense of the various different iterations that have occurred to the character and the group over the years.  One of my complaints with this title is the way characters and past events are tossed around so that I am confused and uncertain what is supposed to be happening.  This helps to alleviate some of that with regard to the Negative man.  On the other hand, this entire issue is exposition, someone explaining to the reader all of the information that we need to know.  It may be a little bit better than reading the Wikipedia page on the Negative Man, but I am not sure it was worth the effort to create the art or the money to pay for it.  Mind you, I was riveted and kudos go to Giffen and Clark for making this issue more than just Larry’s history; it is also about him and who he is.  But it still feels like housecleaning, a way to make sense of the changes over the years.

If Larry Trainor became a woman, then what was the Black Lantern that came back to life in the previous two issues?  Because of the Negative Woman was actually Larry, than he is not really dead, so there can’t be a body to return to life.  Does that make sense?  I don’t know, the whole thing confuses the hell out of me.

Kornbladder?

Much like every other installment of this story, this was funny, funny material.  I think either you will be amused by the antics or you won’t.  I am, which is why I am really enjoying this story.  From the crazy credits to the witty lines to the crazy plot ideas, this is great stuff.
