Synopsis

On the prison planet, Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) decides that in order to get home she is going to need some help, so she enlists the help of Hammer and Sickle to protect her until they can get back home.  On Earth, Slam Bradley investigates Selina’s disappearance.  He is able to track down a young kid who saw the Suicide Squad apprehend her.  The kid offers to take Slam to the same place they took Selina.  Meanwhile, Catwoman and the others reach Lex Luthor’s camp.  They also encounter Cheetah, who decides to exact revenge on Catwoman.  The two fight each other, with the battle ultimately spilling into the center of Luthor’s camp at the exact moment a Boom Tube opens.  On Earth, Slam is taken to an empty warehouse where he realizes too late that a trap has bee sent for him...

It took a lot of effort, and I mean a lot, not to describe the battle between Cheetah and Selina as a catfight.  I hope you appreciate the effort.

Anyway, this was another good effort by Pfeifer and the Lopez boys, although the agreement with Hammer and Sickle seemed a little forced to me.  I am not quite sure why, but it didn’t seem right.  I suppose it may be because it doesn’t have an impact on the rest of the story.  Take those two out and the issue pretty much remains the same.  And I am a little disappointed to see the ending come right back to Salvation Run, with the Boom Tube and Lex Luthor matching up precisely with this issue of the mini-series.  I was really hoping that with the end of Catwoman that we would get back to Gotham sooner than later.  Although I suspect it will happen next month, the question remains: will it happen early in the issue or later.  I hope early, so we can get Slam and Selina back together on the East End rather than being mired down in someone else’s story.  Someone in editorial determined that Selina would turn on Martian Manhunter (which happened in Salvation Run, but not really referenced here at all) and because of that Pfeifer has been forced to write around another story.  Frankly he has done a good job, but at this point the title needs to get back to where it belongs:  East End.

Wow, it has been a long time since Slam has been in this book in any meaningful manner, even before the mess with Salvation Run.  In fact, it had been so long, the narration boxes for Slam threw me off for a few minutes.  Given the fact that this title has been canceled, it is nice that Pfeifer has brought Slam back, since Slam was so instrumental in the first issues of this book.
