Synopsis
Holly (aka Catwoman) is on the trail of Blitzkrieg, a homicidal maniac who has captured a little girl and plans to kill her via a webcast. As she watches from a skylight, Holly accidentally plunges down to the floor below. After a momentary confusion, Holy attacks, but Blitzkrieg wins the fight and knocks her unconscious. Blitzkrieg then ties Holly up and unmasks her on the webcast. Realizing she must act quick, Holly blurts out the street address where she is being held, hoping the police are watching. Angered, Blitzkrieg hits Holly, but it is enough for Holly to break free. This time Holly defeats Blitzkrieg and is able to free the little girl. Outside, however, Detective Lenahan attempts to take her into custody, but when Blitzkreig breaks free the two agree to work together to capture her again. Once they do that however they are attacked by Hammer and Sickle, who kill Lenhana and take Holly as their prisoner. Meanwhile, Selina returns to Gotham and learns of Holly’s predicament.
Review by Binkley (e-mail)
The One Year Later leap was supposed to have Holly become Catwoman while Selina took care of her child. However, the past 12 or so issues actually focused more on Selina and more often than not in her costume as Catwoman. At first this bothered me, but after awhile I realized that (like the rest of the OYL books) making Holly the new Catwoman was actually a stunt and not a real change in the direction in the book. This is, after all, Selina’s book. Now, we get a full issue of Holly as Catwoman and I actually liked seeing her trying to do some good despite her own concerns about her abilities. While this still does not mean a change in the book, I think it was a good choice to acknowledge the OYL stunt at the same time creating the cliffhanger moment in which Selina must save her friend.
As usual, Pfeifer and the Lopez’s (any relation to each other? brothers?) did a fantastic job; the fight scene with Blitzkrieg was amazing. Pfeifer’s captures Holly’s lack of confidence in addition to her desperation as she follows Wildcat’s advice to never stop. I also was surprised when Lenahan literally lost his head. I did not, at all, predict Lenahan’s death. Plus, we finally get to see Hammer and Sickle actually getting involved with the plot rather than just acting as foreshadowing. Overall, this is just some great stuff not only this week, but consistently week in and week out.
