Synopsis

Today...Catwoman finds Lex Luthor’s paperweight the Calculator asked her to retrieve.  But just as she gets it, someone finds her.  Yesterday...Selina arrives in Metropolis to begin her recon to retrieve the item.  She disguises herself and then joins a tour group of the LexCorp building.  At the appropriate time, she leaves the group in search of the secret location of Luthor’s material.  In Gotham City, news of an abducted girl is broadcast on tv.  With Selina in Metropolis, Holly decides to don the Catwoman suit and find the girl.  Meanwhile, Catwoman uses a device stolen from Warp to get into Luthor’s hiding place.  Strangely, she encounters a future version of herself momentarily before a large robot begins to attack her.  She is able to destroy it, leading her to the paperweight.  And Lex Luthor.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

I liked this issue, it was great fun and it was great to see the old Catwoman back, planning a heist and then pulling it off, albeit with a few hiccups along the way.  I loved the fact that she had to steal from a villain in order to steal something for a villain.  And I like how Holly is rushing headlong as Catwoman to save the little girl despite the allegations of murder on her head.  This is the reason Pfeifer put her into the Catwoman suit and I think it is paying off very nicely.  And the moment when Catwoman meets herself was done well; I liked how the future-self suddenly realized when she was meeting her old self and then tried to provide a warning that fell on deaf ears.

There were, however, a few things here and there that make me scratch my head.  The first is the opening sequence.  Having read the previous issue, I know she is after Luthor’s paperweight, so I knew that the man who grabs her should was Luthor.  As such, it made the ending anticlimactic.  I also found the on-page recap a little distracting, but I can forgive it since it does set-up the ending for someone who might’ve missed the previous issue.

I also disliked the scene with the two Russian fugitives deciding to go after Catwoman.  I realize that Pfeifer is setting up the next storyline, or perhaps will dovetail the Russian villains into this one, but it felt wildly out of place.  I don’t like these one page teases; there is nothing (as far as I can tell) about that one page that will enhance this issue or future issues.
