Synopsis
One Year Ago...After Catwoman kills Black Mask, his henchmen order a couple of thugs to kill Sam Bradley in retaliation. Catwoman rushes to the hospital for the rescue, but gets beaten. She is saved by Sam, who manages to fire his gun despite being drugged out on morphine. Now...Selina has apprehended Angelo Bend (aka The Angle Man) and Edison (aka The Film Freak) after they made an attempt on her life after they figured out her “name.” Selina has called in Zatanna to help them forget what they know. Meanwhile, Detective Lenahan has taken Holly into custody, although he knows she is not the real Catwoman. He shows her the skull of Black Mask, hoping she will reveal who really killed him. Holly calls Ted and asks for help. At Selina’s apartment, Zatanna removes the knowledge of Catwoman’s identity and then sends them out to confess their crimes. Angelo finds Detective Lenahan while Edison goes to the television station and kills the manager for his crimes against cinema.

“And the only thing I have for an ‘arch enemy’ is some non-powered bitch with a baby.”
The first time I read this issue, I was a little disappointed. I really thought the Zatanna was done with all of the mind wiping stuff and that this issue would mostly feature Selina and Zatanna arguing back and forth. Instead, Zatanna does exactly what Selina. In one sense that was disappointing. Yet, I liked the way she ignored Angelo’s request to have his mind wiped. As I mentioned, she does not to that. What she really did was just remove a small piece of information, that small bit that would lead them back to “Irena.” Overall, I think I am still a little disappointed the entire subject of mind wiping was not explored further, but I did find this issue a good read, so I can’t complain.
I like it when endings creep up on you and provide a shock without the ending seeming as if it is going for the shock value. Some endings come out of nowhere and will shock you, but after you think about it, you realize that was all it was intended to do: just shock you. But the ending to this issue shocked me; it was not what I was expected. I really figured he would go the police station and that would be the end of Angelo and Edison. But no, something else crept out at me and shocked me. Yet it had more than just shock value. It followed the character of the Film Freak as he has been defined, as someone whose life is seen through the cinema. Zatanna alluded to that in which is memories are just film clip after film clip. Naturally he views all of his life as a film (hence the camera when he showed up at Selina’s apartment) so any crimes he commits would be against film.
Why wouldn’t Holly know who Green Lantern is? Why would she refer to him as the one with the green ring? Wouldn’t you think that in the DCU that are certain heroes that everyone would know, including one of the oldest heroes in the world, the original Green Lantern? I’m just asking, that’s all.
