Well, that explains the brief appearance of Zoom in Time Masters #6, which seemed to be a pointless cameo designed solely for the shock of a cliffhanger. I guess it was just an attempt to build up the upcoming Flashpoint story. It doesn’t really help the story much, it still seems useless, but at the very least, there was a reason for the cameo.
As for this issue, it is a bit of a mixed bag. Part of the issue is spent on trying to explain the world of Flashpoint and what is different and how this affects Booster Gold. While it is not the most exciting thing in the world, I can live with it as it is a necessary evil. I liked the fight scenes with Doomsday and how that played out, including the return later on. However, another part of the issue is spent on introducing a new character, the seemingly super powered Greek. I am not quite sure where Jurgens is leading with this woman, as it seems odd to introduce someone like that in a story that takes place in a different reality. It also seems a little too coincidental that out of, what, 10 million people in Coast City, Booster just so happens to find one with super powers. Overall, I am not quite sure what’s going on with her and I am a little weary of her increased role in the book. Hopefully she won’t take over the plot. The story should be about Booster, not some woman, if you get what I am saying.
I liked the explanation of how the military got a hold of Doomsday. It is actually not all that much different that what happened in the original comics that led to the death of Superman. I guess this is not all that surprising given the fact that Jurgens was involved in the original story.
