Synopsis

Booster Gold and his sister, Goldstar, have entered the Batcave in order for Booster to assume the role of Batman to fix a time anomaly.  They then go to the Gordon household to steal Batgirl’s costume for Goldstar.  The duo go to the museum, where they stop the Killer Moth, who is actually Booster Gold from the previous time they tried to correct the time anomaly.  Once Booster as Killer Moth returns to Rip Hunter’s time sphere, Booster gives the museum loot Wiley Dalbert, another time traveler who can take it to go back in time and correct the timeline.  Booster and Goldstar then escape the Gotham police.  Later, Ralph Dibny (aka Elongated Man) enters the museum and notices a missing dagger, claiming someone beat him to it.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

I am indifferent to this issue.  It sort of meanders around with Booster and Goldstar jumping into and out of situations that force them to run away from people trying to capture them.  I wouldn’t mind it once or maybe twice, but it seems to happen an awful in this issue, first with Alfred, then with Gordon, then the police, and then the police again.  The repetitiveness wore on me after awhile.  Having said that, it was still an enjoyable issue and there were certainly amusing bits and pieces amid all of that running around.  The main problem I have with the issue is that there doesn’t seem to be an ending or at least we don’t see Booster return to the time sphere.  With Rip injured, Booster would be stuck when he is, which would seem a more logical cliffhanger than the one with Elongated Man.

Speaking of which, I am concerned about the cliffhanger.  Not only do we get the question mark for the “to be continued” line, but we also get the “but first” line for the next story.  Plus, the preview for next month on the DC Nation confirms that Starro will be the next plot.  So, did Dixon add Elongated Man hoping to write more Booster stories, but didn’t get the chance due to his departure from DC?  If so, will it be followed up on at some point by the next writer (Jurgens?) or just left alone.  I do find it interesting that Rip’s shooting is barely touched upon in this issue.  We see Rip waking up, but get nothing in terms of whether he is hurt or safe or whatever.  Again, I wonder if Dixon was setting up more for an extended run.  I suppose we may never know.

When Goldstar says, “Our costumes are still in there” isn’t she holding Booster’s costume?  So doesn’t that mean only her costume is in there?  And for the matter, what happened to Batman’s costume that forced Booster to go all Elvis.  He had it in his hand?  Then, let go?  Strange.
