Synopsis

In the time sphere, Rip Hunter tells Daniel Carter that he must become Supernova once more in order to save the universe that Booster Gold unknowingly destroyed when he saved the life of Ted Kord (aka Blue Beetle).  In the Present Day, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are being attacked by hundreds of OMACs.  In the Swiss Alps, when Max Lord learns that Blue & Gold are still alive, he tells Brother I to find them.  In Switzerland, Blue Beetle intercepts an old JLI distress call.  They head to the old JLI headquarters where they find Catherine Cobert, who turns out to be an OMAC.  The Blue & Gold fight the OMAC and are losing when they receive help from Hawkman and Green Arrow.  At the Vanishing point, Joshua Carter calls to order the next meeting of the Time Stealers.

OMAC = Observational Metahuman Activity Constructs

Did you know that the cat that jumps out at Booster Gold when they first enter the JLI headquarters is supposed to be the tabby that Power Girl owned when she was part of the team?  The answer to that question may very well indicate how enjoyable this comic might have been for you.  Johns and Katz manage to toss into this issue a lot of references to the old JLI series, some of which are as obscure as the cat.  If you recognize the cat, then I think this issue was probably a blast for you, reliving a fondly remembered time period with a bunch of “easter eggs” to add to that enjoyment.  On the other hand, I starting reading comic books after the JLI, yet I still thought this was a great comic book.  I enjoyed the relationship between Booster and Ted, from the witty repartee to the way they get themselves into and out of trouble.  Johns and Katz have written a solid story that doesn’t depend on past events.  Certainly, I think enjoyment of the book can be greatly enhanced if you have read the JLI, but it is not required reading to understand what is going.
