Synopsis

Somewhere in Asia, Dinah Lance (aka Black Canary) is training at the hands of the woman who not only trained Lady Shiva, but may also be her mother.  Elsewhere, Huntress is watching over Matt Thorne (aka Crime Doctor) while Zinda, Gypsy, and Shiva pull his daughter out of school and take her to a safe house.  En route, they are attacked by H.I.V.E., who also attack Huntress in the hospital.  Meanwhile, Dinah receives a call from Shiva.  They have decided to trade life experiences with Dinah receiving the same training as Shiva and Shiva becoming a Bird of Prey.  Dinah tells Shiva there is something in the trunk of the car for Shiva to do, but before she can do it, they need to get Thorne’s daughter to safety.  In Asia, mercenaries are coming to the village.  Dinah wants to go and stop them, but “mother” tells her they will do nothing.  Back at the hospital, the H.I.V.E. agents were just a distraction; Thorne has been taken by...Prometheus.

Review by Binkley (e-mail)

“Oh, look, it’s a half a six-pack of hookers.  How sweet.”

“She’s a treasure, I forgot to mention.”

This was another good, solid issue.  Simone’s comedy works well, especially her characterization of Shiva, which for me is the best part of the story.  I am not too keen on the idea of trading life experiences, unless it can significantly change one or the other in some fundamental way.  If it just means Black Canary becomes a better fighter, then the idea (to me at least) just falls flat.  I will wait to see what exactly was in the trunk of the car that had Shiva so upset before deciding if this trade will have a significant impact on Shiva.  I am curious as to what it could be.  I just hope that whenever this “trade” is complete, Shiva remains with the team.  I like her that much.  The whole thing with the dolls is great.

One problem I had with this issue is the abduction of the Crime Doctor.  Well not the actual abduction, but rather the way it was done.  Is the Huntress that much of an idiot that she would leave the room for the doctor?  The moment he asked her to leave I knew what was going to happen.  Would it be too much to ask just to have the H.I.V.E. knock her out of the room to give Prometheus time to get in and get him out of there.  However, I must give credit for good use of bad, but hot coffee as a weapon.

When Shiva is on the phone, where is the camera that projects her image to Dinah?
